Part 2 of 3 - Lawur's Retrospective on the Puddle

Part 2 of 3 - What the kids had to say about the Puddle Jump.

Today the kids get the floor and you get the rid what the kids contributed to this retrospective ... all we did is facilitate the converstation but in Benjamin's case, these are his words and Sebastian wrote the whole piece himself ... I typed it and did some minor spell checking.

SEBASTIAN "THE THINGS I LIKED" It was exciting to leave from Mexico. Most of the days were sunny and hot. After a few days, the water got crystal clear. Happy hour was my favorite part of the day. Happy hour is when we play a game or watch a movie together. There were lots of flying fish. Lots of them landed on our boat and got roasted. When they jump out of the water, they glide over the surface of the water, then crash in a wave. We got a big, fat skipjack that lasted us 3 days. It took my Dad about 25 mins to reel it in because it was so heavy and we where sailing at 6 knots. We had Easter on our boat, We got 2 Lego X-Pods, lots of candy and an Xbox game called Madagascar that is super fun. "THE THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE" Most of the days in the ITCZ were rainy and miserable. I got scared at some of the squalls. We had a few leaks that we had to fill with goop. It was at our bed and it got soaked. I had to throw up on the second day. I felt better after.

I thought that the passage was going to be worse but it came out really good. I hope you liked my paragraphs and please write back. I'm sorry if I have not written back to my friends. We will do it when we have a better connection.

BENJAMIN - "I LIKED ... " I liked that I went swimming in the middle of the ocean. Swimming was really, really fun. I liked the crossing but I didn't like being seasick. Once I had been on the crossing for a while, I did NOT get seasick anymore. I liked Easter and got a lot of candy, we got a cool Xbox game called Madagascar and by now we almost beat the whole game. We caught a big bonito and we ate raw fish; it tasted good but the yellowtail tuna we had today on Hiva Oa was better. We went to a pretty big waterfall in Fatu Hiva, it wasn't so strong but it was really high up. I wanted the trip to be longer, because I liked having happy hour every day, because we play a game together or watch a movie and my Dad did not go to the computer for an hour ... only sometimes ... ;-)

MATEY - "I loved sliding on the floor - back and forth" ... meow, meow, meow ...

SOME INTERESTING AND SOME LESS SERIOUS STATS FUEL - We motored for about 130 hours including charging our batteries and used about 110 gallons of diesel ... compare that with what you used in the last 20 days ... not bad ... hmmh. BOOKS READ - I read 5 books, none of true literal value but I now know who David Beckham is married to and I am about to become the best spy on paper ever around ... I did NOT finish the last book I started, a 1200 page paper weight. Niki and Sebastian both read 2 books each - even Sebastian is on 100 and more page books already! MORE MILES - So here is something for the math enthusiast ... the direct route from Z town to Fatu Hiva is 2766 miles, or 182 miles less then the route we had planned and reported on yesterday. The number that fascinates me the most though is people kept asking about some of our zick zacks we did along the way and in numbers according to our logbook / nav software those detours to accommodate the wind conditions at the time only added an extra of 38 miles.

Can't wait what Niki has to say ... I promise you tomorrow is the day and that will be the grand finale of TheSchmids trip across the Pacific ... no more follow-ups or extra episodes.

Happy voyaging,

Robert and crew
