Toau
An island in the Tuamotus
Sebastian's Report from Toau
Sebastian's impressions of Toau
Toau is an atoll in the Tuamotus. We spent six weeks at Matariva motu, a motu is an island with coral around it. There was one big family with 11 people living there. Everyone was kind to me. I had an amazing experience with them.
These were the tings I liked best: - We were there on June 19th and my mom had birthday on that day. Gaston slaughtered a pig for the feast and Valo cooked a stew. All the boats came for the party. Everyone brought something to eat. The party lasted very long. - My dad finished building our model sailboat. It is called "SeBen", it is white and has a red stripe like our boat. It drafts 10 inches and it is 30 inches long. A few things went wrong with the electronics so we can't drive it at the moment. - Lisa's dog "O'Neil" had 14 puppies, 4 of them died. When they came out, they were 4 inches long. It took 2 weeks for them to open their eyes and to start to walk. Valo choose a white one with two black dots on the tail and named it "Niki". - Gaston has a fish trap on the reef and empties it every Wednesday. Gaston takes his boat to the fish trap and catches the fish out with a big net. When he brings the fish to land it is awesome because you get to see all types of fish. My favorite fish was the 'Steep Head Parrotfish'. I liked it best because it has a lot of bright colors, a funny flat face and a bump on its head. When they finished sorting the fish, Gaston brought them to the supply ship for money. The fish were sold to the people in Papeete, Tahiti. - We met a boat called 'Orinoco Flow' with a couple named Gem and Rob. They have a monkey called Leona. She has a white Mohawk on her head and brown fur on the body. Usually she doesn't like kids but for some reason she liked us. Sometimes Gem takes Leona in a backpack. When she gets thirsty she goes to Gem or Rob and drinks the spit out of their mouth. I never knew monkeys where good for boat pets.
It was very hard to leave we all cried a lot. I hope you enjoyed what I wrote and please write back.
Yours Sebastian
