The Schmids have sailed away

We were at the dock in Santa Cruz this morning as Robert, Niki, Sebastian and Benjamin set out on their trip down the coast of California and thence to who knows where

To parents and friends of Niki and Robert:

This is from Maura and Bob Shelby (aka "The Mobs"): We were at the dock in Santa Cruz this morning as Robert, Niki,  Sebastian and Benjamin set out on their trip down the coast of  California and thence to who knows where...

The past few days have seen much chaos as the boat has been packed with  stuff, provisions stowed, etc.  I have to say, as Niki called us from  Stillwater Cove, just south of Monterey this evening that the tension of  getting ready to sail has been replaced already with calm and pleasure  at being underway for the first day.

So... the first day was calm and went well.  The next few days will take  them to San Simeon, Moro Bay and then to Santa Cruz Island off the coast  near Santa Barbara.

They want you all to know they are well and happy and excited to be  finally done with all the crappy diddly projects on the boat and finally  sailing off for real.  Their love to you all.
