Tonga to NZ - Day 5 of 7
Our last passage for this cruising adventure

Day 5 of 7 - You know you've been out too long....

Here are a few things that go on when you have been out staring too long at the blue ocean.

Here are a few things that go on when you have been out staring too long at the blue ocean:

You know you have been out too long on a passage when you start talking to birds that fly by in the middle of the ocean because you feel a special bond to them ... not sure if it is that we need a change whom we get to talk to or that they are such great listeners without talking back.

You know you have been out too long on a passage when after 4 days a wash with a cold wash cloth feels better than any shower you can remember. Now that the weather is getting cooler, an outside shower isn't as inviting as it was when crossing the equator. So washing down with a cloth is the best you can do; am I glad that I have no hair at least on my head to talk about that needs to be dealt with.

You know you have been out too long on a passage when your daily schedule focuses around when the inverter is on. This might require a little bit explanation but we only have 12V on board, which for some things such as the computer need to be inverted into 110V. Well, when your kids know what time the inverter comes on to charge their gameboys, you know it is time to move back to land.

You know you have been out too long on a passage when you wake up at 3:55am for your shift without a wakeup call. Anybody who knows me remotely knows how much I value my morning time ... I am NOT a morning person so waking up by myself is straight out scary.

You know you have been out too long on a passage when you write to your friends all the personal details, no matter how crazy (talking to birds), disgusting (wash cloth washing), or stupid (playing gameboy) they are ... sorry.

With that, I let you add your own tidbits that tell YOU have been out too long on this passage, even though it is just via email.

Happy sailing,

Robert
